Cybersecurity Awareness Month – Protect Your Money and Information
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month!
Your security is our top priority, and we are here to help.
Since 2004, the President of the United States and Congress have declared the month of October to be Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a dedicated month for the public and private sectors to work together to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity.
Over the years it has grown into a collaborative effort between government and industry to enhance cybersecurity awareness, encourage actions by the public to reduce online risk and generate discussion on cyber threats on a national and global scale. October 2024 marks the 21st Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
We are increasingly connected through digital tools and more of our sensitive information is online. This convenience comes with risks, especially in the financial area. Each of us has a part to play in keeping ourselves and others safe. It is easy to do and takes less time than you think.
Shinhan Bank America recommends following these tips to keep your money and information safe.
· Examine the email address in all correspondence and scrutinize website URLs. Scammers often mimic a legitimate site or email address by using a slight variation in spelling. Or an email may look like it came from a legitimate company, but the actual email address is suspicious
· Do not click the link in an unsolicited text message or email that asks you to update, check, or verify your account information. If you are concerned about your account status, go to the company’s website to log into it or call the phone number listed on the official website to see if something needs your attention.
· Scrutinize all electronic requests for payment or transfer of funds.
· Be extra suspicious of any message that urges immediate action.
· Make online purchases with a credit card for an extra layer of protection against fraud.
· Do not send money to any person you meet online or allow a person you do not know well to access your bank account to transfer money in or out.
